After a 30-minute drive east along the Denpasar-Gianyar road, visitors arrive in Kemenuh, a small and simple village, which is not unlike any other village along this increasingly forgotten road (people tend to use the much wider Ida Bagus Mantra highway now).
The village, however, has one charming treasure: the Tegenungan waterfall. “It was named after our hamlet,” ticketing official Desak Putri said as she welcomed several domestic and foreign visitors at the entrance to the waterfall. (more…)

A coral reef restoration project in Pemuteran bay, Buleleng, North Bali — about 130 kilometers from Denpasar — was awarded the Equator Prize by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Karang Lestari, the community-based foundation that initiated the project in Pemuteran, has been recognized for its outstanding success in promoting local sustainable development solutions for people, nature and resilient communities.
The award was presented by Helen Clark, UNDP administrator, to I Gusti Agung Prana, the representative of the Karang Lestari Foundation, on June 20 during the Equator initiative gala event at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. (more…)

“We are projecting that the elevated toll road that is built over the sea will be able to become fully operational in July 2013,” Jasa Marga director for commercial development Abdul Hadi said on Wednesday. (more…)
How much does an average property agent earn? – I was recently invited by the Institute of Estate Agents (IEA) to be one of the panel judges for the Realtor of the Year award. Along with my fellow judges, I was given the sacred task of interviewing and identifying a suitable candidate who embodied the values of a model realtor. Apart from being top performers (in terms of commissioned earned), they also had to be professional in conduct and provide warm and personable service.
From the judging session, one thing I noted was how much these agents earned. As all of the shortlisted candidates were top achievers in their agencies, almost all of them earned commission amounting to more than several hundred thousands. Seeing this, one of my fellow judges even commented in jest that he should consider a career switch. (more…)

Their comments came as the government announced it would extend the program, already in effect in Greater Jakarta, to the rest of Java and Bali.
Energy Minister Jero Wacik introduced the regulation for Greater Jakarta last month, saying it would help save Rp 5 trillion ($535 million) in subsidy spending. (more…)
The number of foreigners traveling to Bali keep growing – in April reached 626,100, a 2.96 percent increase from 609,093 tourists in the same period last year, according to data released by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) on Friday. “The interest of foreign tourists [to visit Indonesia] keeps growing from time to time, reflected by the increase of foreign tourist arrival through the country’s main gateway for tourist arrival,” said BPS head Suryamin.
However, April’s figure saw a 4.92 percent decrease from 658,602 foreign tourists in March, partly due to a seasonal factor. According to Suryamin, April is usually a slow month for traveling. (more…)
