Bali Development dilemma
property-report.com - Bali Development dilemma – Authorities in Bali have closed five establishments along the northern part of the famous Kuta beach. The closure of five beachside establishments and the critical review of a high profile five-star development along the northern part of Bali’s famous Kuta beach stretch, also known as Batu Belig, is definitely a move that should be noted not only by the developers affected, but also by investors, holiday makers, and local residents on the Island of Gods.
The reason for the closures was cited as zoning violations, while the five-star development is being accused of erecting buildings not in conformance with the building plans submitted and approved by the authorities. The violations allegedly include disregard for several zoning regulations and also the lack of appropriate operating permits.
Visitors to Bali should take note, because the move seems to be an attempt to preserve the natural beauty that attracted them to the island in the first place. Even though the closure of the establishments means they (the visitors) may no longer be allowed to dine with their feet in the sea, it nonetheless means that they may be able to return to Bali in ten or 15 years and still actually go to the beach.
Residents on the island should take note too because although the closure of the establishment may mean a loss of jobs and income in the local community in the short term, it also means that money may be made in the long term, as sustainable tourism and development enable Bali to remain a popular resort destination for many years to come.
Finally, Investors should take note because the move signifies a new hands-on approach from local authorities and what seems an appreciation of the importance of conforming to certain building and zoning standards.
At a time where Bali is increasingly being perceived as overcrowded and dirty, these steps serve as a clear message to existing and potential investors that the local authorities are serious about maintaining Bali’s attractions and natural beauty.
Then again, it may just mean that the establishments in question just weren’t playing by the ‘other’ rules…
